  • A bee in August, by Thodoris Atheridis on the Terrace of the Lampeti Theatre

Twenty years after its first presentation to the public, the comedy by Thodoris Atheridis, “A Bee in August”, is presented at the Summer Theater of Lampeti. The direction is signed by Nikorestis Haniotakis who collaborates with a troupe of wonderful actors and they bring coolness to the summer evenings in the center of the city. The History; Harry and his company are vacationing on an idyllic secluded beach. He is suddenly stung by a bee, which causes him a severe swelling and brings his “other self” to the surface. Harry’s slightly more “full-bodied” alter ego will settle between him, his wife and his lover, causing relentless panic in the group and non-stop laughter in the audience.

The director Thanos Papakonstantinou, in his second visit to the Argolic theater for the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, is faced with a work revealing the poet’s interest in ecstasy and mysticism, the Bacchae. Euripides’ Bacchus – a tragedy written in the third decade of the Peloponnesian War – recounts the arrival of Dionysus in Thebes, the refusal to accept the new religion and the tragic reversal of persecutor and persecuted that will lead to the annihilation of Pentheus by his own mother.
