Juliana Paes says she suffered sexual abuse as a teenager: ‘I wanted to erase it’

Sexual abuse is a reality in the lives of many girls and women. Juliana Paes opened up about her private life and said she was a victim.

The actress played the character Liana in “Pedaço de Mim”, who is raped at the beginning of the series. Juliana commented on her experience and expressed her own feelings regarding violence.

“Every woman has experienced some situation of violence to a lesser or greater degree. I have experienced episodes like this in my adolescence and I remember the feeling of wanting to disappear right after it happened,” said the actress in an interview with Conversa Vai, Conversa Vem, a videocast from O Globo.

She pointed out that, most of the time, the abuse is committed by someone close to the family, which makes it difficult for the woman to become aware of the wrong situation: Until you understand that trust has been broken and you take away the blame… ‘Wait, what share of responsibility do I have in this?’ It took me years.”

“You try to suppress it inside you. For me, it was kind of overshadowed. But yes, it was bad, it was a situation of sexual abuse,” she said.

Juliana said that recording the Netflix series was a difficult experience due to her memories: “I got physically ill afterwards. But at the same time, I treated it, it seems like I had a big backpack like that (…). It was difficult to separate from Liana.”
