Only a name like Silvio Santos could subvert the rivalry between Brazilian broadcasters. With rare consent from Globo, Luciano Huck and Angélica appeared live on SBT this Saturday (17) to give a statement about Silvio.
The couple of presenters, both with experience at SBT, recalled stories with their former boss and paid tribute to him for his legacy on television.
“Today it’s not Globo or SBT, today it’s TV Silvio Santos”, said Angélica.
Huck announced that tomorrow’s Domingão (18) will be a live special in honor of Silvio. Today, the owner of Globo’s Sundays, he said that he began his career in the early hours of SBT, on Otávio Mesquita’s program.
Angélica also recalled her long history with the man in the trunk, who did everything he could to not lose her to Globo.
“When I was first invited to go to Globo, Silvio, with his usual way, convinced me not to go. Then there was no way out, I received another invitation and said ‘Silvio, I have to go’. He was very upset. On the day I was leaving, I hid in the dressing room so I wouldn’t have to say goodbye to him. I didn’t want to have to face that. But I went there, faced it, said goodbye to him. He wished me good luck and said he would wait for me back”, said Angélica.
“We would like to express our affection to all of Silvio’s fans, to the SBT audience, to the Abravanel family, and to say that we are together in this moment of grief, but celebrating this important chapter in Brazilian communication and TV,” said Huck. “All of us who love television have to thank the wonderful seed that Silvio planted throughout his life,” he concluded.
Serginho Groisman was also allowed by Globo to give an interview on the rival channel. The Altas Horas host spoke live on SBT about his memories with Silvio. “Today there is no rivalry, today all the channels are united,” said Serginho. The host quoted Silvio himself to end his testimony: “We don’t take anything from life, let’s smile and sing.”
