The awarding of an honorary distinction with the Silver Medal of the city to the songwriter, lyricist and composer Dionysis Savvopoulos is planned for Saturday, September 28, by the municipality of Thessaloniki.

Dionysis Savvopoulos was born in Thessaloniki, remaining a citizen to this day.

The honorary distinction will be given to the artist for his “extremely important contribution to modern Greek culture, his special contribution to the promotion of the city through his songs and public interventions and his general participation in social struggles with the aim of shaping the collective of our self-awareness and our cultural identity”, as stated in the relevant proposal of the matter, which will be put up for approval next Monday, August 26, at the municipal council meeting.

The honorary meeting for the awarding of the Silver Medal will take place one month later, on September 28, at the Thessaloniki City Hall.

According to the Municipality’s Honorary Distinction Awarding Regulation, the city’s Silver Medal is awarded to natural or legal persons who have provided outstanding services to the city of Thessaloniki or to the Arts, Sciences and Letters.
