The Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro approved this Wednesday (21) a project to give the title of Benefactor to Zeca Pagodinho.
In the project, state deputy Dani Monteiro (PSOL-RJ) defined the artist as an “icon of Brazilian samba” and also cited his contributions as a philanthropist and as a businessman in Rio’s nightlife, with the chain of bars that bears his name, and as a philanthropist.
The title of Benefactor is granted to national and international personalities who are valuable to the economic, scientific, artistic, cultural or sporting development of the State, and who, in an unequivocal and relevant way, have contributed to progress and development in the arts sector.
“Zeca is a great representation of Rio de Janeiro’s art scene. Despite his international success, he maintains a strong connection with his roots in Rio, investing in his homeland. Through a chain of bars that bears his name, Zeca promotes local culture and generates jobs,” said the deputy.
The legislator also mentioned the institute founded by the artist in Xerém, which offers free courses in music, gastronomy, beauty, cinema and equine therapy for children, “helping to transform lives and promote dreams”, she added.
“His dedication to music and the community reflects an exemplary commitment to culture and social development, making him a figure worthy of recognition and honor for the state of Rio,” he said.
