The court decision to sell 50% of Michael Jackson’s music to Sony
A California appeals court has rejected an appeal by Michael Jackson’s mother and ruled that the executors of the pop star’s estate can proceed with the sale of 50% of his music rights to Sony Music for $600 million. .
A month after issuing the temporary decision against Katherine Jackson (Katherine Jackson), the court decided that the trustees of the estate, John Branca and John McClain did not violate the terms of the star’s will when they signed the giant deal with Sony.
“The will gave the trustees broad powers of sale, without any exception for the specific assets at issue in this case“, read the decision of the appeal court.
“Therefore, [ο κατώτερος δικαστής] did not err in concluding that it was Michael’s intention to allow the trustees to sell any assets including those relating to the proposed transaction».
The court also dismissed Jackson’s appeal on the grounds that she had not presented her arguments to the previous court.
According to Billboard, he may appeal the decision to the California Supreme Court, though the chances of it changing are slim.
