Regina Casé celebrates her daughter’s debut as an actress: ‘People with disabilities taking up space’

by

Regina Casé, 70, used social media this Saturday (31) to celebrate the debut of her daughter, Benedita Casé Zerbini, 35, as an actress. She will be the protagonist of “90 decibels”, a new film from Globo studios, which tells the story of a lawyer who loses her hearing — just like what happened to Casé’s daughter in real life.

Casé celebrated the presence of people with disabilities in the audiovisual industry. In addition to her daughter, the screenwriter of “90 decibels”, Julia Spadaccini, is also deaf.

Benedita was born hearing, had pneumonia as a child and took high doses of ototoxic antibiotics, which resulted in severe hearing loss, according to her mother.

“I tell this whole story so that many mothers, many people who are currently receiving a diagnosis, think like Júlia and think like Benedita, that it is very scary, but that it is possible to go despite being afraid,” wrote Regina Casé on her Instagram.

Casé also spoke about the significance of her daughter’s achievement. “I always thought that her intelligence, perception of others, worldview, and magnetic beauty could make her a great actress. But look, we who fight so hard against ableism could not imagine that this would be possible because of her deafness.”

“Of course Benedita can act! She can do whatever she wants,” the actress wrote. “Nowadays, you can turn on the TV and see a cast with many black actors, which was previously unthinkable… Today, we see people with disabilities occupying places that were never imagined before.”

Benedita also celebrated the achievement on her Instagram. “Right now, there are so many things going through my head… that I can only be grateful! I’m living, throwing myself into it and diving head first! Life is so beautiful,” she said.

Celebrities and celebrities reacted to the news and left comments on Regina Casé’s post. Among them were actor Bruno Gagliasso, actress Regiane Alves, musicians Psirico and Gaby Amarantos and dancer Lore Improta.
