From the sand dunes of the south to the flowery embraces of Pantokrator, Christina Jamala traces the land of Corfu with her lens
Does life grow in an empty shell? What answers can a smelling salt tour bring? How many surprises can the golden territory of sand or the opening of a forgotten door hide?
From the sand dunes of the south to the flowery embraces of Pantokrator, the Christina Jamala traces the land of Corfu with its lens. Winter hiking through the netted fields while leaden clouds bring rain • autumn seeking nature’s warmest palette in impassable fields and drenched paths • spring on flowery slopes • summer where the wave breaks sculpting the stone.
Seventeen snapshots from these excursions to the beloved place from which she draws her origin are unfolded by the photographer at the Elpifos Gallery in Arillas, Corfu from September 19, 2024.
“There are times when I feel the need to shift from being busy, stressed, or stuck in cycles of reflection and move into calmer, more receptive states of mind. One of my favorite ways to do this is to take a few minutes to notice details in nature by looking closely at a single leaf or stone,” she says of the motivation for her tours and continues: “Nature reminds me of being in moment, to appreciate the simplicity of life. It is a constant source of inspiration and healing.”
Sometimes he will go on a photo safari with a specific goal in mind from the start. And if the circumstances of the moment do not bring the desired result, later noticing small details in her photographs, she manages to keep, as she says, her passion alive and to appreciate nature even more. “This discovery made me understand that the best way to understand what is around you is to slow down and start noticing the details, and then you will realize a whole new world. He will not regret it, provided he admits that he is but a leaf, a tiny dot in nature’s palette, and will patiently analyze the ‘why’.”
Immovable nature, multifaceted temperament, Christina Jamala leaves a trail in life – from finance and public relations to folklore and artistic creation. It advocates that “you don’t choose Corfu, it chooses you” and it was a conscious decision to make it at every opportunity its starting point in a willful search for the minimum, that which ultimately opens the door to the soul and the essential, the meeting with oneself and the womb that gives birth to us, nature.
