How the Western intellect and the aftermath of the French revolution sow the seed for the uprising of the Greeks. Adamantios Korais, the Greek rulers of Moldovlachia and the Phanariotes… The awakening of the Greeks for their freedom begins.

In the broadcast of Sunday, August 11, a new chapter opens in the presentation of European history in the part where Greek history also touches, as historically we are in the pre-revolutionary period.

Aris Portosalte with guest Mr. Tudor Dinou, professor at the chair of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Bucharest discuss the history of Moldova and Wallachia more thoroughly in relation to the citation of the historiography by the Greek historians.

Moldova is placed on the map, at that time, as it is today’s Moldova, while further west of it and east of Bucharest is Wallachia. These are 2 states with trans-Danube hegemonies that were founded in the 14th century after their independence and the vast majority of them have a Latin-speaking population.

Wallachia became independent in 1330 from the Kingdom of Hungary and became an independent hegemony while establishing relations with the Bulgarian Tsarate, the Serbian and the Byzantine Empire. Moldavia, respectively, becomes independent in 1359 from the Khanate of the Golden Horde, and historical Moldavia also included the present-day Republic of Moldavia.
