This year’s August was the warmest since 2010 in Northern and Western Greece, the Ionian and the Peloponnese, with average monthly values ​​up to +1.8°C above normal for the season, according to the network of the 53 weather stations of meteo.gr of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA)

In the remaining geographical divisions it was recorded as the second warmest since 2010 (remains the warmest August 2021). An exception is Thessaly, where it was the third warmest August.

The deviations of the average maximum temperature in August 2024 by geographical department

August 2024 was a very warm month following the very warm June and July 2024, with average values ​​for the month almost 1°C above the second warmest (August 2021) in Northern and Western Greece.

Continuous positive deviations were noted throughout the country from the beginning of the month to the end of the month, mainly in Northern Greece, Western Greece, Ionian and Peloponnese of the order of 6-8°C above normal levels for the season.

Small negative deviations were noted only in the islands of the Aegean and in Crete with the parallel prevalence of the meltium.

In Athens, the average monthly maximum temperature deviation value was +1.2°C, with 25 of the 31 days of the month being warmer than normal for the season.

In Thessaloniki, 24 days of the month were warmer than the average value of the period 2010-2019, where the average maximum temperature of the month fluctuated +1.1°C above normal levels.

At 60% of E.A.A. stations 25 days (at least) from the 31st of the month were warmer than normal.
