Norway is known to be a rich country so it has the luxury of maintaining a royal house. In fact, it is considered one of the most popular of its kind in all European countries where the institution has survived. But as often happens in blue-blooded families, there is a “black sheep” here too.

The 52-year-old Princess Martha Louisa has occupied the media from time to time with her views and her actions. Divorced with three children, she deals, as she says, with “esotericism”.

She even declares she is enlightened, that since she was a child she could converse with flowers and trees. Growing up, he also got in touch with angels and spirits.

The outcry caused by some of her unscientific statements forced her at some point to give an explanation regarding her view on medicine: “I believe that alternative methods can be an important supplement to medicine for many. Acupuncture, yoga, meditation or conversation, I believe can help make many people’s lives better. Not in replacement, but in addition to the treatment provided by the health system.”

Distances from the royal house

Martha Louisa has given up all her rights to the relief of those who feared she would one day be queen, especially since she became involved with a like-minded man.

“Together with my fiance Durek Veret I will continue to help create a clear distinction between our activities and the royal household where this is necessary. We will not represent the royal house.”

This statement became necessary because Durek, a 49-year-old black man from America who declares himself to be a shaman and half… reptile, married the eccentric princess last Saturday. “If they didn’t match…” as the saying goes. In any case, this relationship has caused a lot of comments and questions among the average Norwegian, and it has also become a piece of cake for the country’s scandal-mongering media.

Embarrassment and silence

The wedding in the idyllic tourist resort of Geirander, in a Norwegian fjord, took place in a closed circle, 350 people. The royal family eventually decided to accept the invitation, but a spokesperson clarified that their members would prefer not to be photographed, perhaps indicative of the embarrassment caused by the whole event. Of course, there is no talk of statements.

The only one who seemed to take the opportunity to make statements in front of the cameras was the self-proclaimed “Princess of Sierra Leone”. Sarah Jane Culberson a worldly person from the US who is involved in charity and was apparently invited as a friend of the groom. “It’s great to meet, develop friendships and talk about the work we’re doing in our countries. And also, to offer services to the world,” she said excited by the ceremony, the scenery and herself.

So we learned that Sierra Leone, tormented by wars and other disasters, also has its own blue-blooded people. Some have rightly characterized this wedding as a “festival of the odd”.
