Branco Mello, from the Titãs, will undergo surgery to remove a tumor

by

Singer and bassist Branco Mello, from Titãs, will be away from the shows for the removal of a tumor in the hypopharynx – the entrance to the esophagus, according to the band’s advisors. O tumor is recurrent of a previous one, treated in 2018.

In a statement, the Titans informed that Branco Mello’s tumor was detected during a routine examination. He will be away from his activities until complete recovery from surgery. “Dear friends, I’ll be back soon!”, wrote Branco Mello on social media.

The band continues with the concert schedule with the participation of bassist Caio Góes Neves as a special guest until Mello returns to the stage.

In 1998, the musician underwent surgery to correct an aortic aneurysm (dilation of the main artery of the heart). At the time, Branco Mello said it was a scare, but it was good that the problem was diagnosed in time.

A special plastic prosthesis was placed in Mello to replace the 5 cm of the dilated artery and a metallic prosthesis in place of the aortic valve (a kind of port that regulates the outflow of blood from the heart to the aorta).

Active since the 1980s, the band went through several formations. Currently, members of the Titãs include Tony Bellotto, Branco Mello and Sérgio Britto, who play accompanied by musicians Mario Fabre (drums) and Beto Lee (guitar).
