In the application of strict internal control protocols at all levels of operation of its mechanisms Attica And in the effort of the administration to eliminate consolidated malfunctions, the Regional Governor mentioned, Nikos Chardaliasat the Workshop of the National Transparency Authority (EAD) entitled “Internal Audit in Public Administration: Establishment, Implementation, Perspective”.
“From the first moment internal control has helped us to deal with real functional weaknesses, to prevent risks and – most importantly – to plan targeted improvement interventions“, Mr. Chardalias noted, in the context of the thematic panel entitled” The Importance of Internal Audit as a Strategic Governance tool “. He stressed that internal control is a dynamic tool for protecting any administrative mechanism from exogenous pressures, which has greatly enhanced the reliability, effectiveness and dignity of the country’s capital.
“In the Attica Region we want to be a model of transparent and effective administration. Internal control should not be scared by us. We cultivate a new culture of responsibility and transparency in the administrative mechanism. Because the big challenge is to leave a culture of compliance and to go to a culture of accountability and constant improvement“, The Regional Governor pointed out. At the same time, he talked about the systematic efforts made by the Regional Authority in recent months in correcting the pathogens of the past, the elimination of corruption phenomena and the resolution of malfunctions that have plagued the citizens. “The first six months were difficult, I made difficult decisions with a logic of balance and equality. This decision has justified and proved to us particularly critical to the more effective functioning of our services and the relationship of trust we want to build daily with our fellow citizens.“, He underlined.
Mr. Chardalias also referred to the attempt to staff the internal control services of the periphery, noting: “The human factor is primary, because you can’t get to the court without the executives. There you will lose. And of course, when we lose, we don’t lose. Lost citizens, everyday life loses, our effectiveness is lost” He stressed that in 2025 the Internal Audit Department would become an independent address, well -staffed and with clear procedures, which will be directly subject to the Regional Governor.
Concluding, he talked about the will of the Attica Region to continue investing in the strengthening of internal control, in good cooperation with the National Transparency Authority. “Internal control is not a “policing” tool, but an institutional ally, which generates measurable results. Those who do not want to admit it, I think not only do they do not serve the common effort, but also offend themselves. Because I think a modern administration, without a powerful internal control system, is really a boat in an ocean with large tricks“, Concluded Mr. Chardalias.
