The famous actor not only refused to have a stuntman, but also refused to be paid for this whole show
It’s been a month since Tom Cruise stole the show at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics and people are still talking about it.
As another Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible, the 62-year-old Hollywood star hovered over the Stade de France for 15 minutes, took the Olympic flag and left on a motorcycle.
Then in a two-minute video clip, Tom Cruise was seen riding his motorcycle through the streets of Paris towards a plane, on which he traveled to his next stop in Los Angeles.
Finally, the actor jumped out of the plane and landed on the Hollywood sign.
And how much did he get for all this?
Nothing!
As Casey Wasserman, chairman of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, revealed on a CNBC X Boardroom panel, the famous actor not only refused to stunt in the video clip, but also refused to be paid for the entire show – live and taped.
“We did a group ZOOM call and the original idea was to have a stuntman in the stadium. We said there’s no way Cruz could do it all. We are talking about a four hour shoot. Tom and I would do this thing with Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign, a stuntman would deliver the flag to the Stadium and stuff. About five minutes into the presentation, Tom Cruise turns around and says, ‘I’m in. But I’m only going to do it if I do it all,'” Wasserman said, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In fact, not only did he do it all by himself, despite the grueling shoot and time pressure of also shooting Mission: Impossible 6 in London, but Cruise (and his entire crew) refused to be paid, according to Ben Winston, head of production company Fulwell 73 Productions.
