ABBA tops the UK charts with their first album since 1981

The legendary band from Sweden, ABBA, made a triumphant return to the British music charts today, as they immediately launched to number one with their first album in 40 years, “Voyage”.

The album is the fastest selling album this year, it became known by the British Official Charts Company, with 204,000 sales in its first week of release.

Only three other albums have surpassed 200,000 sales in the last decade: Adele with “25”, Ed Sheeran with “Divide” and One Direction with “Midnight Memories”.

“We are delighted that our fans enjoyed our new album as long as we enjoyed its creation,” ABBA said in a statement. “We are delighted to have an album at the top of the charts again!”

“Voyage” is the band ‘s first album since “The Visitors” in 1981. It is ABBA’ s 10th album to become number one in the UK.

According to the UK’s Official Charts Company, “Voyage”‘s total sales consist of 90% of classic copies, including 29,000 on vinyl, making it “the fastest-selling vinyl release of the century”.
