Miley Cyrus is being sued for copyright infringement after she allegedly copied Bruno Mars in the creation of her Grammy-winning hit, “Flowers”.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Tempo Music Investments claims Cyrus’ 2023 chart-topping single has “many musical similarities” to Mars’ 2012 ballad “When I Was Your Man.”

The investment platform – which says it owns a share of the copyright for Mars’ track – believes that the chorus, harmony, melody, chords and lyrics of “Flowers” are a deliberate rip-off from Mars’ song, which however, he is not listed as a plaintiff in the filing.

Reps for Mars, 38, and Cyrus, 31, did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

Earlier this year, the singer received her first Grammys after “Flowers” which took the title of album of the year and best pop solo performance with Cyrys “leaving behind” Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.

“This award is amazing, but I really hope it doesn’t change anything, because my life was beautiful yesterday,” Cyrus said while accepting her awards.

Not everyone in the world is going to win a Grammy, but everyone in this world is great, so please don’t think that’s all that important“, he had mentioned.

The song has become an anthem of empowerment. In it, the singer trades bitterness for self-love and thirst for revenge with a tribute to herself.

The Tennessee singer sings about the arduous process of moving forward with only a commitment to your own happiness in your “baggage.”

I can buy myself flowers / Write my name in the sand / Talk to myself for hours / Say things you don’t understand / I can take myself dancing / And I can hold my hand / Yeah, i can love me better than you“, say the lyrics of the song.

Cyrus created an ode to finding happiness without a romantic partner. It is a defense of self-sufficiency on the road to fulfillment.

“Flowers” was released two years after Miley Cyrus and actor Liam Hemsworth announced their divorce.
