The story of the Greeks is not only about the Greeks, it is a story for the world. Roderick Beaton, the leading English historian, professor of Modern Greek and Byzantine History, Language and Literature at King’s College London, tells Aris Portosalte the history of the Greeks.

In the show of Sunday, September 8, Aris Portosalte with guest Mr. Roderick Beaton, discuss the Greek language which is the main tool on which the Greek culture was developed and then spread during the period of the 19th century. Greek speakers, for 35 centuries, produce Greek culture and this is achieved with the Greek language and above all with the discovery of the Greek alphabet. With the discovery of writing, man can now express his feelings through poetry, literature and theater and is able to record his history.

The first to record history was Herodotus and thanks to his narration we know what happened in the Median and Persian wars, while Aris Portosalte and Mr. Beaton also refer to Thucydides who wrote about the Peloponnesian war. In addition, they talked about Philip and Alexander the Great whose conquests spread Greek culture and the Greek language to all corners of the world. Finally, they referred to the Roman Empire, Constantine the Great who officially became a Christian and the use of the Greek language in church and religion.
