The journalistic team of the show “Where Greece There is” continues the journey to Evros and today at 14.40, to SKAI, with Yiannis Tsimitselis coordinating from the studio.

The Evros Delta wetland hosts rare species of flora and fauna. Inside the islands formed by the Delta, there are about 250 wild horses trapped, which in recent years are in danger of water scarcity. The causes are many: the climate crisis, a barrier built by the neighbors (Turks) to contain the fresh water of the river to water their paddy fields, and a broken barrier on our side that leaves the fresh water to pour into the sea.

Only four children, two cafes and scarce people … They have all remained in the deserted village of Alexandroupolis, in Ardanos. Same picture in the municipality of Soufli. The accuracy of the products, coupled with the inability to find work in the primary sector, makes it difficult to stay young in these places.

Two years have passed since the devastating fire that burned Evros. It has been the largest forest fire in European soil over the last 20 years. A village, Kirk, in the heart of the forest measured many burnt houses. The village club was mobilized, raised money and found a roof for a fellow villager. His home was completely burned with his animals and vegetables.
