Rebeca Andrade’s gold on the floor exercise at the Paris Olympics could have gone to Simone Biles if the refereeing team hadn’t made a mistake. Images from the American gymnast’s Netflix documentary showed that this possibility existed.
A clip from the documentary, which was also used by Jordan Chiles as part of her appeal to keep her bronze medal, showed Biles asking Team USA coach Cecile Landi if an appeal had been requested on her score on the floor exercise.
The video shows Biles telling Landi, “Is he asking?” referring to her husband and co-coach Laurent. Landi responded, “He said yes.” Laurent then spoke to Landi in French and she told Biles, “They didn’t send it.”
Biles finished 0.033 points behind Rebeca and won silver in the women’s individual floor exercise final. Had the investigation been successful, the American would have earned enough points to take the gold.
In response to the video, Biles wrote on X (suspended in Brazil) that Rebeca deserved the gold medal. “Honestly, it’s not a big deal to me. Rebeca had a better floor anyway. It sucks how it wasn’t investigated, but I’m not mad at the results,” she said.
