The emergence of the Greeks in the foreground of European history in the 19th century. The distinguished Greek historian, Maria Efthymiou, describes to SKAI 100.3 the preparation of the Greeks for the great uprising. This is the most important station for the creation of modern Greece.

In the show of Sunday, September 15, Aris Portosalte with guest Mrs. Maria Efthymiou, examine the period of the Ottoman Empire and the pre-revolutionary period. The Ottoman Empire was a Muslim multicultural empire that was governed on the basis of the Koran and the principles of Sharia i.e. the Holy Law. Since the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire administered the four historical Patriarchates of the East, which, together with the Patriarchate of the Armenians, were under its supervision. This contributed to strengthen the presence of the Ottomans in the lives of their subjects, but through their own administrative bodies, i.e. the ecclesiastical authorities.

Moreover, at that time the religions that existed were tolerated within the Ottoman empire and had their own governing bodies, while the faithful could practice religion in their places of worship. Aris Portosalte and Mrs. Efthymiou also referred to the network of Greek schools that existed at that time and to the Greeks of speech. Finally, they analyzed the Greek commercial shipping which, from the second half of the 18th century, recovered and became the most important shipping of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea, as well as the life of the merchants.
