A letter from MrBeast to new employees at his company has been circulating on social media and has revealed the success formula of the world’s biggest YouTuber. With 217 million subscribers on his channel, the businessman wrote that videos must be “stupid” and “intense” and that he only hires employees who are “obsessed” with their work.
With a predominantly male audience, Jimmy Donaldson’s channel (his real name) is known for videos of extreme challenges, games and humor for young boys. In the letter, he says that videos should have a “wow effect” within the first minute, which is the most important thing to capture viewers.
“The more extreme, the better,” MrBeast says in the document. “The first minute of each video is the most important,” he added.
The YouTuber also confirms that he makes childish and stupid videos, since boys like to engage in such behavior: “People like it when we’re in our natural environment of stupidity. Really do everything you can to empower the boys during filming and help them create content. Help them be idiots.”
“It’s okay for boys to be childish. If the talent wants to draw a penis on the whiteboard in the video or do something stupid, let them,” he wrote.
Donaldson also said he only hires “A-level” employees: “They are obsessed, learn from their mistakes, proactive, smart, have no excuses, believe in YouTube, see the value of this company, and are the best in the world at their jobs.”
Earlier in the letter, he wrote that his employees should not take the advice literally, but if they read the letter and answer a questionnaire, they could earn $1,000.
The entrepreneur makes it clear that he believes YouTube is the future of video, telling employees to “get rid of Netflix and Hulu.” “This isn’t Hollywood and I don’t want to be Hollywood,” he said. “If that’s a turn-off, then you’re probably in the wrong job.”
MrBeast is involved in a lawsuit involving contestants from the show “Beast Games”, scheduled to air on Prime Video. Five people filed a lawsuit against MrBeast’s production company, MrB2024, and Amazon in Los Angeles for having faced an environment that “systematically fostered a culture of misogyny and sexism” during filming.
