BBB 22: Tadeu Schmidt takes stock of the first 50 days ahead of reality

by

Expected to be shown for 100 days, BBB 22 (Globo) arrives this Monday (7) at half. If the participants did not fall in the public’s taste, leaving the dispute from now on very predictable, the same cannot be said of the new presenter, Tadeu Schmidt.

The former Fantastic took over the program this season, after the management of Tiago Leifert, and has been receiving more praise than criticism on social media. “I didn’t know that I would be so welcomed and receive so much affection from people,” he said in an interview with Globo. “And I keep getting it. It’s been wonderful!”

“Of course there are people who come in to criticize one thing or another,” he said. “But that’s so small in the face of the affection I’m getting that I would say the audience interaction is absolutely positive, and I intend to carry it through to the end of the season.”

The presenter said that living the show from the inside is very different from the spectator. “‘Just being in here to find out’ is a cliché phrase, but it’s true”, he says, remembering something that is often said by the confined. “It’s really a unique experience. As a presenter I was also surprised. I imagined it would be a very intense, very strong experience, and it is! It’s absolutely special.”

He also told what are his favorite moments in reality. “What I enjoy most is talking to the participants, following the tests and the timing of the elimination speech,” he says. “Not necessarily in that order.”

In some of these moments, in fact, he has stood out in the public eye. The race narrations have been praised for gaining a typical sportscaster excitement. “Since I was called to present the BBB I imagined that the tests would be a special moment, which I would enjoy a lot”, he said.

“When they happen, I simply intend to draw the viewer’s attention to every detail,” he explained. “For example, ‘if this happens now, the test can be defined’. Or ‘attention because if so-and-so does that, he goes ahead of someone else’. These are insertions for people to follow the test not simply seeing what is happening, but knowing the importance of each moment.”

He says it came naturally. “I love this part because they are narrations of tests that we are not used to watching, which are not common”, he commented. “Not even Everaldo Marques, who accumulates narrations of different sports, has never narrated, for example, the assembly of sandwiches, as I narrated (laughs). It’s too much fun!”

The elimination speeches, on the other hand, have been praised for always giving important touches to those who remain in the dispute — even if they are not always perceived by those inside the house. “The public is often more suspicious of who is eliminated, but even so I like to leave the audience and participants with suspense until the end”, he revealed. “And this is very difficult because I have to include in the text things that are important for those who are eliminated, but that also speak to the other walled-in. This is the great challenge.”

But not the only one. “Sometimes I’m speaking my text and I see, out of the corner of my eye, on the monitor, a tear running down the face of someone who can be eliminated,” she recalled. “I have to hold back so I don’t get overwhelmed by emotion and end up not being able to finish the speech.”

“Seeing their reaction, the relief of those who stay, the emotion of those who leave, the sadness of those who are losing a friend in the game, is very strong, it moves us a lot”, he said. “And I think it’s going to get stronger and stronger going forward.”

In the next 50 days, Tadeu believes that the participants will still experience many emotions. “I feel like there’s a tension building up in the house and I don’t see any possibility of it going away,” he said. “There are very well-defined groups, with one person or another circulating among them. But at some point, one of these groups may break up and people will have to reposition themselves.”

“This is going to be very curious because I can’t imagine what could happen,” he said. “It’s very likely that people will be surprised. I tend to bet that decisive moments in the game will happen in totally unexpected ways.”

He says he remains excited and happy about the mission to host the show, but that his routine has changed a lot in the past 50 days. “At home, I wake up and call Globoplay,” he said. “I spend the whole day watching it. I’ve caught myself several times thinking about life and saying: ‘Yeah, I think I’m going to change the channel because I’ve been listening to someone snoring for half an hour. I’m going to watch the news in the meantime (laughs)’.”

When he’s not watching, he can count on people from the team to tell him everything that happened in the house. “Dealing with the BBB team gives a lot of tranquility”, he celebrated. “No decision that I make is alone, especially because I arrived this season and, even after 50 days, I’m still discovering many things. The interaction with the BBB team is very nice.”

However, nothing compares to the moment when work ends and the father of the family enters. “As soon as the show is over, my wife, I and my two daughters do a group video call to comment on everything that happened,” he revealed. “Every day. This is something I will always remember, contact with my family in a very nice and pleasant way. It’s a Schmidt family roundtable as soon as BBB ends, too good!”
