A “little ball” in the mouth was a sign that there was something strange about Heloisa Périssé’s health. When removing it and sending the material for clinical analysis, the shock came — it was cancer in the salivary glands. There were 30 lymph nodes [nódulos] in the region, which needed to be removed in a nine-hour surgery.
The actress then faced simultaneous chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions. “In the second week, I started screaming: ‘I want my life! I can’t take it anymore!'”, said Heloisa —Lolô, for those close to her—, in an interview with Ela magazine. Life? She returned to normal (she considers that she may even be better) after the end of the treatment, in 2019. “It’s my cure, glory to God, in the name of Jesus! I underwent exams throughout this period and, when five years pass, ( the doctors) say we are ‘ok’.”
To celebrate the date, he is releasing “Cheia de graça”, with a book signing next Tuesday (15th), in Rio (in São Paulo it was on the 9th). She says that the book is not an autobiography, “but a look at how certain things you choose, while others, life chooses for you.”
She then remembers the day she entered the [Hospital] Syrian-Lebanese. “I saw ‘Oncology’ written, and I thought: ‘The Lord is throwing me into a world diametrically opposed to mine. I come from fun, from playing. There isn’t that here. But God wants me to visit this place.’
God has always been very present in his speech. Heloisa today calls herself a Christian and says she has no religion, but says she was born Catholic and was baptized a Mormon at the age of 9. Afterwards, she studied Eastern philosophies and spiritualism and, in 1999, became an evangelical.
Asked about the debates surrounding gay marriage, she says she follows what Christ said: “Do not judge so that you will not be judged; people’s relationship with their religions and lives is private.”
Regarding abortion, she says she doesn’t want any woman to go through that.
“But it has to do with the freedom to define something that happened to you. In the case of raped women, that child was not their choice. We cannot act blind. Since abortion will be performed, it needs to be offered equally to all people, safely.”
Married for 22 years to screenwriter and director Mauro Farias, the actress says that, during this time, they had an “on and off” relationship, until they fell into place. “We never experience hypocrisy. The secret is to always keep the relationship very careful” — and your libido up to date. “Sex is a practice, just like physical exercise. You can’t let it die.”
