Anitta once again touched on the sensitive subject of sexual abuse she suffered when she was still a teenager. Participating in the documentary A Great Day with J Balvin, the singer told how she felt after experiencing the traumatic episode.
“When I was a teenager, at 14 years old, I lost my virginity being abused by someone I knew. For me, it was a mix of feelings, I didn’t know how to react and how to tell my family. I didn’t tell anyone, just I lived with this for many years”, said Anitta.
Talking to the singer, the Rio native said she felt “dirty, miserable and guilty” after going through the abuse. J Balvin then asked why she felt guilty about someone else’s action.
“Women, in our society, are trained to feel that everything is our fault,” said Anitta, adding that she always wonders what clothes the woman was wearing or what she did to be abused.
“For us, it’s always a position of being at the bottom and needing to live up to expectations. There’s always a reason, it’s never the guy’s fault. We did something to make the guy do it,” she said.
The singer spoke about sexual abuse for the first time in the documentary Anitta: Made in Honório, released in 2020. She chose to make the statement alone, with the help of a team, and said she had met an “authoritarian man” of whom she was afraid .
