In his new book, Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over: My Guide to Life, two-time Oscar-winning actor Michael Caine reveals his first meeting with the then-young Tom Cruise ) describing him as “very kind” and full of curiosity about acting.

According to People, his new book will be released on March 25, 2025.

In the book the legendary actor recounts some of the highlights of his 70-year career, including his first meeting 40 years ago with his long-time friend at an event to promote the film Educating Rita, for which he received the first his Oscar nomination.

“I turned around and saw a young actor, very polite asking questions about how to build a lasting career. It was Tom, probably at the time of ‘Risky Business,'” Kane writes in his book according to the Sunday Times. “I don’t remember what I said, but it obviously didn’t hurt him. There was something special about him.”

Until that time Cruise had only had supporting roles, while three years later he got the leading role in the movie “Top Gun”.

“He had a unique aura and intense confidence. What intrigues me is that Cruise is one of the last true movie stars. People will go see a movie just because he’s in it.”

Last year Cruise skipped the Oscars to attend the leading actor’s 90th birthday bash at London’s River Café. The surprise was organized by his wife Kane and he said he was “overwhelmed” by his presence.

The two friends were together in the movie “Austin Powers in Goldmember” in 2002 but without having a common scene.

Kane has made more than 150 films during his 70-year career.
