Just like our makeup brushes need care and cleaning, so does the hair brush
We all know how important it is to clean our makeup brushes regularly to avoid any possible contamination on our face. But what about the brushes of hair us; Are we neglecting them a little? If the answer is yes, it’s time to change it! A dirty brush can do more damage to your scalp than you might think.
Over time, the hairbrush accumulates hair, oil, dead skin cells, product residue and impurities from the environment. All of this is transferred back to your hair every time you use it, and can cause scalp irritation, create greasiness, or make your hair look dull and tangled. Think how much better your hair will look if you take care of your brush with the same diligence as you take care of the rest of your beauty routine!

Let’s see why it’s so important to clean your brush, how to do it and how often.
Why should you clean your hairbrush?
With each use, your brush collects more than you imagine. In addition to the hair that accumulates, oils, residues from the styling products you use, and even dead skin cells or dust remain. This tiny “junk” returns to your hair every time you use it, causing your hair to become greasier, frizzier or tangled more easily.
When you clean your brush regularly, you will notice an immediate difference, your hair will be cleaner, less greasy and definitely shinier.
How often should you clean your brush?
For most, a cleaning once a month is enough. But if you use a lot of styling products or have oily hair, it would be good to clean it once a week. If you also suffer from dandruff, regular cleansing helps prevent dead skin cells from being transferred back to your hair, making it healthier and cleaner.
Also, don’t forget to remove the hairs stuck to your brush every day. This way, you will prevent excessive build-up and keep your brush always in good condition.
How to clean your hairbrush
First, you need to remove all the hairs that are tangled in the brush. For this, use your fingers or a pointed object such as scissors, a stick or even a pen. After cleaning the hair, follow these steps:
- For plastic or synthetic brushes, soak the brush in antibacterial soap or mild shampoo.
- For wooden brushes, use a toothbrush dipped in soapy water and carefully rub the bristles together, being careful not to submerge it completely in the water.
- Rinse the brush thoroughly under running water, being careful not to soak the wood or material of the brush.
- Squeeze out any remaining water and let the brush dry bristles down on a clean towel in a well-ventilated area.
- Make sure the brush is completely dry before using it again to avoid mold.
When to replace your brush
A good brush has a lifespan of about 6 to 12 months. If you notice that the bristles are broken or bent, or if the brush doesn’t detangle your hair like it used to, then it’s time to replace it. A worn brush can cause damage to the hair and scalp. If your brush is in good condition, try to replace it at least once a year. And remember, regular cleaning will extend its life!
