As his manager announced Pompeii Tourist Park, Gabriel Zuchtrigelfrom November 15, two important changes will take effect: the name of the visitors will be written on the tickets and, at the same time, on a daily basis, the entrances will not exceed 20,000.

This is a measure adopted after a summer in which a record number of visitors was recorded, which exceeded 4,000,000, an increase of 33% compared to 2023.

According to official data, on the first Sundays of the summer months, when the entrance to Archaeological Park of Pompeii is free, Italian and foreign tourists broke records, with over 36,000 attendances.

“We prepared a series of interventions to limit human pressure on this archaeological site. We must not forget that if there is no restriction, both the visitors – in the event of an earthquake – and this unique and so fragile cultural heritage may be at risk,” said Juchtriegel.

“We are aiming at a non-massive and quality tourism, which can be expanded to the wider region of Pompeii”, he added.

Next summer, the number of visitors will be reduced and they will also be “shared” at different times.

This specific initiative follows the same logic of the decision taken for the Trevi Fountainin the Eternal City, where in a few weeks there will be a restriction on the number of visitors and, in a second phase, an entrance ticket of 2.5 euros.
