Singer Rita Ora paid tribute to Liam Payne during the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) this Sunday (10) and cried when talking about her friend, the former One Direction singer who died in October at the age of 31.
Rita, who collaborated with Liam on the 2018 single “For You”, began her on-stage speech by saying she wanted to take a moment “to remember someone very, very dear to us”.
“We lost him recently and he was a huge part of the MTV world and my world and I think a lot of you at home and everyone here tonight,” he continued.
“Liam Payne was one of the kindest people I knew,” he said, accompanied by applause from the audience.
“He had the biggest heart and was always the first person to offer help in any way he could. He brought so much joy everywhere he went and left such a big mark on the world,” said the singer.
Tearfully, he added: “So let’s just take a moment to remember our friend Liam…”
Rita had previously admitted to being “devastated” by Liam’s death. The singer took to social media in October to pay tribute to Liam, saying he had “the kindest soul”.
She also paid tribute to the former One Direction member during a concert in Osaka, Japan.
Liam fell from the third floor of the Hotel Casa Sur in Buenos Aires last month. He was in Buenos Aires to watch his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan perform.
