Thirty-five typewriters from the famous collection of the Academy Award-winning actor, director and producer, Tom Hankswill be shown for the first time to visitors to the “Some of Tom’s Typewriters” exhibit in Sag Harbor, east Log Island.

As exhibition curator and author Simon Doonan stated, “his amazing collection of typewriters Tom Hanks will delight visitors of all ages.”

The exhibition will open on January 11, 2025, at Church Sag Harbor. It’s an organization founded by artists April Gornick and Eric Fischl that deals with the ‘life of things’, organizing events around ‘material culture’ and the exploration of various objects such as bicycles and guitars.

“Fischl contacted Tom Hanks – through mutual friends – about organizing the exhibition after seeing the actor’s 2016 film ‘California Typewriter'”executive director Sheri Pasquarella said via email.

And he added: “Simon was chosen because of his amazing and iconic way of bringing objects to life through clever, often low-fi, techniques that are in line with our approach.”

Hanks got his first typewriter from a friend who had decided to buy a newer model, an Olivetti electronic typewriter. Two years later, when he took it in for service, the person in charge told him it wasn’t worth it. He left the workshop with a new model but also with a new perspective. “This guy, he changed my perception of the place a typewriter can have in your life,” the actor told NPR.

He still uses a typewriter today to reply to thank-you notes, notes and to-do lists, according to Artnet.
