Pugh, star of such hits as ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Dune: Part Two’ and ‘Little Women’ said: “I had a bit of a concern last summer and I just wanted to go and get some gynecology checked out and then we ended up finding out things that I probably wouldn’t have known until I started having kids.”
The actress said she canceled the appointment after some strange dreams made her think she needed to get some tests done. A short time later she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis.
“It was so weird because my family are baby-making machines,” she said. “My mother had babies until she was forty, my grandmother had that many children too. I just never assumed that I would be different in any way and that there would be an issue with that.”
Pugh continued: “And then I found out that I have to freeze my eggs and do it quickly – which shocked me – but at the same time it made me happy, because I wanted to have children.”

Endometriosis is a common gynecological condition in which tissue similar to the endometrium, which lines the inside of the uterine cavity, grows outside the uterus, causing pain, inflammation, and sometimes fertility problems. It affects around 1 in 10 women of reproductive age and can have a significant impact on their quality of life. The chronic condition affects about 8% to 13% of women and girls of reproductive age worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.

Pugh said she hopes her “truth” will help other women facing a similar health problem. “I feel so disappointed for all the young women who will find out too late and find out when they start having kids in their thirties when they could have dealt with it early.”she added.
