“Constantinos Karamanlis was talking to Demirel, after the invasion of Cyprus, was he a traitor? – We want an Opposition with a costed counter proposal”
A full-length interview was given by the deputy minister to the prime minister and a government representative Pavlos Marinakiswho was hosted on Friday morning on his television and in “Today» with him Dimitris Oikonomou.
First, he commented that the anxieties of a government must go hand in hand with those of the citizens, which have to do with the need for the country’s progress in all economic indicators to translate into relief in the citizens’ pockets, i.e. increases in incomes. “For the first time after many years we are hearing two things at the same time in Greece that were happening either opposite or one of the two. In other words, housing, since Greece is one of the countries that has the highest rate of debt reduction, so it does not mortgage the next generations, and at the same time it starts and returns mainly to the middle class what it and the citizens were deprived of in the previous years. The government’s concern is therefore the development policy, which it has been following since 2019”.
Talking about the upcoming stance that the former prime minister is going to take Kostas Karamanlis in his today’s speech in Patras, after his deletion Antonis SamarasMr. Marinakis estimated that the government will not get to the point of deleting it. “He is an ex-prime minister who is decently positioned. From time to time he has expressed some concerns and some reservations. A few weeks ago, he also advocated that the government serves the timeless national line in foreign policy matters. he has the special privilege as a former prime minister and former president to be installed. Regarding the deletion of Samaras, it is definitely positive that for a week now all of our MPs and government officials have stuck to what we said from the very beginning, that is to move forward united without there being any other room for a different reaction”.
At the same time, he pointed out that from 1993 until today there have been “years that destroyed certainty”, adding that to seek stability with substantial progress and to remain serious is much more important than a buzzword and a saying. “There is absolutely no problem with our MPs. Everyone in ND is absolutely coordinated in the common goal which is the implementation of our program. Now what will be done by a former prime minister who is no longer in the ND, is his matter.
“The fact that we are talking with Turkey does not mean that we are retreating, it means that we are claiming”
As for Greek-Turkish and its new challenges Hakan Fidansaid that the government does not behave in terms of naivety, as the conversation does not mean retreat, but assertion. “Constantinos Karamanlis was talking to Demirel shortly after the invasion of Cyprus. What was the Ethnarch, a traitor? One of the greatest patriots of our political system, which is commonly accepted by all? A few years later, some decades later, Mr. Samaras held meetings with Erdogan. Were there no rhetorics about gray areas then? Were there no violations? He made 6 rounds of exploratory contacts.”
“We are not naive to believe that Turkey has changed its attitude from one moment to the next. The Turkish minority issues are ahistorical and have nothing to do with International Law. It is obvious that there is not a Turkish, but a Muslim minority. But I say this from your show. If there was no dialogue, Mr. Mitsotakis would not have said this in front of Mr. Erdogan. Therefore, Greece has not lost, but won in this story. He has won to have a total defense policy with armament programs, with 76% more expenses in the defense budget. He has won alliances, he has won respect across Europe and around the world from the US Congress to Europe. It has managed to shield its borders, it has managed to operate 30 structures and not 130 structures for immigration, in a difficult international situation”, he underlined.
“PASOK’s “no to everything” is half reality, the biggest problem is that there is no counter proposal”
Responding to scenarios to change it electoral lawthe government spokesman ruled out such a possibility. “There may be suggestions, but I don’t know and there is no such discussion,” he noted.
As for the independences of Theodoras Tzakri and Iotas Pouloswhich brought the PASOK in the position of the Official Opposition, he emphasized that it is important that the Official Opposition has changed in the country, not even after elections, but after some decisions of parliamentarians who are absolutely respected. “What people will understand is if they will get an Official Opposition with a costed counter proposal. We go and say “this is what we do”. So someone comes and talks about “crumbs”, accusing us of “giving little”. When he suggests something without sitting down to see how much it does, we’re essentially talking to the void. I believe PASOK’s “no to everything” is half the reality, the biggest problem is that there is no counter proposal and when there is no counter proposal, there can be no discussion
