In the show of Sunday, November 17, Aris Portosalte welcomes the historian Iakovos Michaelidis, professor of Modern and Modern History at the Department of History and Archeology of the AUTH, for a shocking look back at the fate of the orphaned children of the Revolution of 1821.

The discussion focuses on the tragic conditions in which thousands of children who lost their parents during the Revolution found themselves and the role of the American Philhellenes, who, shocked by the plight of the Greeks, took it upon themselves to care for many of them. Many children were taken to the United States, where they were offered an education and the opportunity to start a new life, away from the war. The story of the orphans is linked to the Philhellenic wave that inspired humanitarian movements, showing how the Revolution of 1821 affected and moved peoples far from Greece.
