After the great interest in the project with the banana stuck to the wall, another minimalist painting is going up for auction in Germany. It is a white canvas and the price to acquire it starts at 1.5 million. dollars!

The work dates from 1970 and is by the minimalist American painter Robert Ryman. The work is titled “General 52″ x 52″” which alludes to its dimensions – it will go under the hammer by art lovers at the Ketterer Kunst auction house in Berlin on December 6 and 7.

The artwork appears to be…blank, but the all-white canvas with a slightly darker white frame was painted with white enamel paints, usually used for painting metals.

Using these types of colors on cotton canvas resulted in the work being particularly fragile and they could not move him for exposure.

“The material is very sensitive and the smallest traces on the flawless surface would immediately reduce the value of the work significantly,” says Ketterer Kunst in a statement, which emphasizes that the painting is “in very good condition.”

Robert Ryman, who died in 2019 aged 88, was known for his experimental workswhich were mostly empty in color and strictly white. He had no formal art training, but was a jazz pianist who took up painting as a hobby after becoming a curator at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
