TRENDS
Asoka Makeup Challenge – For those who love a makeup trend, the Indian makeup “asoka”, inspired by a 2011 Bollywood film, was the favorite of 2024 and gained fans of various nationalities. In Brazil, it was started by influencer Camila Pudim.
How my father danced in the 80s – To the sound of “Smalltown Boy” (Bronski Beat), fathers and mothers transported their generation Z children straight to the dance floor of the 1980s, with little steps and hair flips that are no longer seen around.
Me and bullet shell – To the sound of the hit “Casca de Bala”, by Thullio Milionário, internet users showed who their “stick” is: friends, spouses, siblings, parents and children and even pets joined the trend.
My Roman Empire – You know that topic that you find yourself thinking about when you least expect it? And that, in general, it has little or no relationship with your everyday life? Tiktok sources guarantee that men, especially when their partners are trying to interact or attract attention, are constantly immersed in thoughts about the Roman Empire (27 BC to 476 AD).
Saint Loves – It all started in 2001, when the Spanish duo Andy & Lucas released “Son de Amores”. Pabllo Vittar, the queen of the Brazilian version, launched the “São Amores” version this year and the choreography soon went viral, with Tiktokers making a gun on the verse that says “loves that kill”. The trend gained many followers, but also a hater: the composer of the original song, Lucas Gonzáles Gomez.
Messages
Calm down, Calabrian – Broadcast by Davi Brito on BBB 24, the expression even generated a fight in court between Tony Tornado, who would be the true inventor of the phrase, and Mani Reggo, Davi’s ex-wife, who tried to register the patent to sell a sandwich with the name.
“As Does Twitter cost?” – The Brazilian lived to see Narcisa Tamborindeguy being poor. Yes, next to Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, the Rio socialite’s fortune is in shambles. She tried to save Twitter from the hands of the billionaire, but she didn’t have a bullet to buy the social network, acquired by Musk in 2022 for US$44 billion (around R$267 billion).
“What Xou da Xuxa is this?” – Nothing sums up the Brazil of 2024 better than a Xuxa xou where the children were left out, a young man entered, the public was left waiting since 4am and no one understood anything. Patrícia Veloso captured a general feeling in that 1988 video, captured in the documentary “Pra Semper Paquitas” (Globoplay).
“Do we want to know?” – Influencer Camila Fremder summed up another collective feeling when she questioned one of the most boring trends of 2024. Do we really need to know which side you cut the toilet paper on?
Simone Biles reacts to Rebeca Andrade – The American gymnast couldn’t even hide her surprised face when she saw Rebeca Andrade performing at the Olympics. “Sentiu”, joked Brazilians on the internet. At the end of the games, the two established a cordial relationship. Simone returned home with three gold medals and one silver, and Rebeca with one gold, two silvers and one bronze.
INFLUENCERS
In the content creators category, YouTuber Blogueirinha needs no introduction, who also competes in three other categories: best comedian, best humor production (“Blogueirinha, A Feia”) and best program (“De Frente com Blogueirinha”).
At the other end of the internet, where seriousness and the “girlboss” style prevail, is Bianca Andrade, Boca Rosa. Owner of a cosmetics empire, the ex-BBB and entrepreneur stood out this year, when she turned 30 years old and established herself as a businesswoman and influencer.
Camila Fremder, who is also competing in the best meme category, became an influencer in 2024, going viral with her fluid and almost involuntary humor. Exuding a calm and “ugly” vibe, as she defines herself when she is at home without getting ready, Camila makes fun of self-centered bloggers, questionable trends and other internet oddities.
The year 2024 was a leap forward in the career of Casimiro Miguel, who made one of the biggest broadcasts of the Olympic Games. Without losing the friendliness, charisma and sense of humor that made him famous, Cazé established himself as a gigantic streaming businessman.
Dancer and choreographer Raphael Vicente broke out of the bubble when he made a video for Madonna’s “Hung Up”, trying to reach the diva’s feed. In addition to dancing, he is also an activist, he does humor on Tiktok and seeks to show another reality of Complexo da Maré beyond the poverty and crime already so often portrayed.
