Nicole Kidman once considered giving up acting, but decided against it after her mother’s advice

If she had left acting in 2008, the year she considered retiring, Nicole Kidman would not have had hits like “Big Little Lies” (2017), “The Weight of the Past” (2019) and “Babygirl” (2024), the most recent of them. For this last production, she was nominated for best actress in a drama at the Golden Globes.

The actress stated in a recent interview that she seriously considered leaving acting after the birth of her 16-year-old daughter Sunday, as she considered herself satisfied until that moment. But he backtracked after advice from his mother, who died in September.

“I had moved to Nashville and we were living on a farm. My mom said, ‘I wouldn’t give it up completely. I would keep some of it still.’ And I said, ‘No, no. I’m done,'” she said in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.

Even with the decision made, Janelle still insisted that her daughter not retire. “She said, ‘Just listen to me. Keep going. I’m not saying you have to work at the level you’ve been working at, but don’t give up completely.’

Nicole’s mother died when the actress was at the Venice Film Festival competing with “Babygirl”. She said the matriarch’s last words were of concern. “I was about to get on a plane and she said ‘Wait a minute, you need to take care of yourself’. I didn’t know that would be her last words.”

The artist stated that she constantly tries to balance the different aspects of her personal life and career. “There are times when I do more things, times when I do less. Finding that balance is part of the journey, you make mistakes. My husband always tells me to take care of myself too.”
