Claudia Leitte removes Iemanjá from song lyrics and secretary suggests racism

A change in part of the lyrics of the song “Caranguejo” has caused uproar in the life of singer Claudia Leitte. In one of her last shows, instead of saying “saluting Queen Iemanjá”, she sang “I sing my king Yeshua”, which means Jesus in Hebrew.

The moment went viral on social media, and now even Pedro Tourinho, Secretary of Culture and Tourism of Salvador (BA), decided to criticize the artist.

Even without mentioning names, Tourinho spoke about the episode. “When an artist claims to be part of this movement, salutes black people and their culture, reveres their percussion and musicality, is successful and makes a lot of money from it, but suddenly, he chooses to rewrite history and remove the name of Orixás from the songs, make no mistake: the name of this is racism”, he posted on his social networks.

After the repercussions, the secretary returned to his profile to put an end to the story. “This issue I raised is much more about the whole than about the part and bigger and more endemic than an isolated case. The intention is not to fuel hatred against anyone”, he pointed out.

When contacted, Claudia Leitte had not yet commented. Ivete Sangalo liked Tourinho’s comment on Instagram about supposed religious intolerance, but later removed the like.

It wasn’t the first time that Claudia changed the song’s lyrics. In February, she had already received criticism from internet users for the same reason.
