The animal became a symbol of the state’s recovery after heavy rains destroyed cities and left thousands of residents homeless. Caramelo spent four days stranded on a tin roof in Canoas, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. Brazil followed his anguish, rooted for his salvation and was moved by him.
The rescue mobilized social media and celebrities, such as Giovanna Ewbank, Felipe Neto and First Lady Janja, lined up to adopt him. The rescue carried out by the Fire Department was broadcast live on television.
Seven months after the disaster, Caramelo was adopted by the Lutheran University of Brazil, which had been caring for the horse since his rescue. When he arrived at the veterinary center, he was dehydrated, weak and underweight.
Today, the animal is a synonym of resistance and resilience, applauded and loved by fans wherever it goes. And he also became the grand champion of the F5 2024 Prize. Congratulations, Caramelo!
