Ney Latorraca had lived for decades in one of the “maestros”, four high-luxury buildings named after conductors (Villa-Lobos and Stravinsky were two of them), overlooking the shore of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. It is a high-luxury spot in the south of Rio.
Dead at the age of 80 this Thursday morning (26), victim of pulmonary sepsis, Ney had already decided that the apartment would be donated after his death. Not just the one in Lagoa, but all four that he had in his name: One in São Paulo, “close to the FHC building”, another in Jardim Botânico (south zone of Rio), and another on Rua Rainha Elisabeth, in limit between Copacabana and Ipanema.
In an interview with Veja Rio magazine, given to this reporter at the height of the pandemic, Ney said that investing in real estate gave him the security he needed for his old age. “I love paying a bill on time, it’s something for children of poor people. I was once very poor and only started making money in the 80s, with the play Irma Vap.” The destiny for his heritage was already set.
“I put it in my will that I’m going to donate the four. One goes to ABBR (Associação Brasileira Beneficente de Reabilitação), the other to the Retiro dos Artistas. The other two, one goes to the Support Group for Children with AIDS, in Santos , and one more for a group dedicated to leprosy victims. It’s all in my will.
