The ongoing severe weather events have put the three municipalities of central and northern Evia on alert, while since Christmas night problems have arisen on crossing bridges and rivers.

According to the mayor of Limni Mantoudiou-Ag. Annas Mr. Tsapourniotis “the water that fell during the previous 24 hours exceeded 200 millimeters in some places”. It is characteristic that in many cases, it was necessary to close the roads as a precaution, especially in the area of Mantoudi, as the torrents swelled dangerously and the Irish crossings that exist, did not provide safety for cars.

Little by little, the problems are being restored in several parts of the provincial network from Psachna to northern Evia. However, because the phenomena will continue, the authorities of the area ask the residents to be especially careful, to limit their movements and avoid moving near rivers.

At the same time, the Region of Sterea and the municipalities as well as the Fire Department together with the Police are closely monitoring the development of the phenomena and intervene either with machinery or by stopping traffic.

Traffic has already been stopped on the road from Drymonas to Kerasia-Osios David as the river has overflowed at the Pournari location, while emergency measures are also being taken at the Kokkalia location in Istiaea as there has also been an overflowing of the river.

Finally, in a new emergency report, the Civil Protection of the Sterea Region notes that severe weather conditions will continue with heavy rains in places in Evia, eastern Sterea – mainly in Fthiotida and Boeotia, for this reason staff and machinery remain on alert while, the forces are reinforced with hired machines where necessary.
