Artists gather at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro to say goodbye to Ney Latorraca. The actor, who died at the age of 80 due to pulmonary sepsis, had many admirers throughout his 60-year career.
Othon Bastos and Ary Fontoura, veterans of Brazilian television, were present at the ceremony, which was also attended by Marcelo Serrado, Claudia Rodrigues, Maria Padilha, Marcos Frota and TarcÃsio Meira Filho.
Inês Galvão, married to the artist for five years, was photographed in front of the coffin. She paid tribute to him on social media and said that her ex-husband carries a large part of her story with him. For the last 30 years, he was married to actor Edi Botelho, who welcomed celebrities at the wake.
The ceremony is open to the public and the actor’s body will be cremated.
Ney had been hospitalized for six days at ClÃnica São Vicente, in Gávea, south of Rio de Janeiro, as a result of treatment for prostate cancer.
Before he died, the actor left four luxury apartments in his will, in RJ and São Paulo: donations to entities.
“One goes to ABBR (Associação Brasileira Beneficente de Reabilitação), the other to the Artists’ Retreat. The other two, one goes to the Support Group for Children with AIDS, in Santos, and another to a group dedicated to the victims of leprosy. It’s all in my will. I insisted”, he said in an interview with Veja Rio in 2020.
