A renowned American officiant has proven that artists can be surprised by their co-workers’ budgets when planning a wedding. Marcy Blum, who plans events for celebrities, revealed that Jennifer Lopez wanted Bruno Mars to perform at her wedding, but was shocked by the singer’s exorbitant fee.
“We were working with J.Lo [Jennifer Lopez] and A-Rod [Alex Rodriguez] before they finished, and they were looking at a list of musicians, and she said, ‘What about Bruno Mars?'”, said the officiant on the podcast “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her” on Thursday (26).
She then allegedly told Lopez that she had just worked on a performance by Bruno Mars at another wedding, in which he was paid US$5 million (about R$30 million currently) to sing for 45 minutes to an hour.
According to the ceremonialist, upon hearing the price, the singer replied: “Don’t be ridiculous!”
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s wedding never took place. They started dating in 2017 and got engaged in 2019. The couple was set to get married in Italy in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to postpone the ceremony.
They ended up splitting in 2021, shortly before she rekindled her romance with Ben Affleck, whom she married in 2022 and divorced after two years.
