Marcos Mion: presenter remains leader at Globo, but his film and stage are contested

If in 2021 Marcos Mion was on the rise as soon as he arrived on Globo’s Saturday afternoons, the same cannot be said for 2024. The Caldeirão presenter had his year with more questions, whether from the public, or even in court.

His year started well with the renewal, in January, of his contract with Globo. Stay for another three years. The announcement was made by himself on Instagram. His program also maintained audience ratings on the station, with an average of 12 points in Greater São Paulo.

Another moment considered positive was the performance of Madonna’s show, in Brazil, in May. Along with Kenya Sade, Mion was praised for her tone in the coverage. But the good news stopped there.

His way of presenting Caldeirão, almost in a preaching tone, has been criticized on social media. The lack of news on the program was also a crucial point of criticism from viewers.

Mion was also involved in a controversy: gossip profiles pointed out that he had cheated on his wife, Suzana Gullo, during a trip to Curaçao. Mion spoke out and denied any problems.

“Don’t believe everything that’s said on the internet,” he said. Another controversy: a lawsuit. Filmmaker Camila Rizzo is accusing the presenter of plagiarizing the short film “Headway”, written, produced and directed by her in 2018.

Rizzo is trying to prevent in court the premiere of “MMA – Meu Melhor Amigo”, a feature film starring the presenter and which is scheduled to be released in January 2025. The case is pending at the São Paulo Court of Justice.

The filmmaker is asking for compensation of R$50,000 for moral and material damages due to breach of copyright, in addition to wanting public recognition of the case. For now, the Court has approved the launch of production.
