Anthony Hopkins celebrates 49 years of sobriety with his fans and friends. In fact, he himself “uploaded” a video on social media, telling a story that really changed his life.

The two-time Oscar-winning actorwho turns 87 tomorrow, Tuesday, December 31, 2024, said that an incident that happened in 1975 was decisive for him to stop drinking. The actor admitted that – at first – he was having such a good time until he realized he had “big, big problem”as well “couldn’t remember anything” and “he was driving a car drunk.”

Hopkins, best known for his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter, said the near-tragedy led him to seek help to deal with his alcohol addiction. “Then, on that fateful day, I realized I needed help and I got it. I called a group of people like me – alcoholics. And that was it – sober. Anyway, these 49 years I spent better than ever”he added.

Hopkins told more than 5.3 million followers that help is available for those who seek it. “If you have a problem – having fun is great, having a drink is fine – but if you have a drinking problem, there is help. It’s not a big deal, ask for help, there’s plenty of help around. There are thousands of people around you just like you. You are not alone”added, among other things, the famous actor. The actor wrote in his post: “One day at a time. 49 years. Life is ongoing.”
