Jennifer Lopez has carved out a brilliant career as a singer, actress and entrepreneur.

The award-winning artist who took her first steps in the early 1990s, attributes her own success to her parents, who through their encouragement, found the strength to believe in herself and follow her dreams.

In an interview with the Radio Times on the occasion of her new film Unstoppable, she recalled one of the valuable pieces of advice she had been given.

“When I was a child, I was an athlete. I ran track,” said the star. “I was one of those kids who wanted to achieve something somehow, so there was always a voice in my head. It was actually my mother’s and my father’s voice saying, “You can do anything. If you want to be President of the United States, you can be President of the United States.” And I believed them,” he added.

In her new film Unstoppable, directed by William Goldenberg, she plays Judy Robles, the mother of three-time wrestling champion Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg. Co-starring is Jharrel Jerome who plays the champion of Arizona State University and Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña and Don Cheadle.

“When you’re impersonating a real person, which I’ve done quite a few times, there’s a fine line between doing an imitation and absorbing the essence of that person,” Lopez continued.

“I was taking notes in a big file, which got bigger and bigger as we shot.”

The sports drama also highlights the personal struggle of the mother who was tormented by her son’s disability.

“She felt it was her fault that she was born this way. “Even today, they don’t really know why she was born with one leg – she carried it around her whole life,” Lopez said.
