Jason Momoa is returning to the DC Universe – only his “reign as Aquaman” is over. He will instead play the anti-hero Lobo in ‘Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow’.

The new superhero film, starring Milly Alcock, will be the second film in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s reboot of the DC universe after the long-awaited “Superman” with David David Corenswet.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, it also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as the evil Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley as the galactic warrior Ruthye Marye Knoll.

Ana Nogueira wrote the screenplay based on the comic of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

The famous star confirmed the news in an Instagram post and shared a clip from an earlier interview with Fandango. On the occasion of the ‘Aquaman 2’ tour, he had mentioned his love for the character.

“So Lobo was…I collect comics, and I don’t do it that often anymore, but he’s always been my favorite, and I’ve always wanted to play Lobo, because he’s the perfect role,” he said in the interview.

“Listen! If they call me and ask me to play him, sure yes. I haven’t gotten that phone call so I don’t want to spread fake news, but if they call me and ask me to play him or audition, I’m ready.”

The star accompanied the post with the caption: “They called.”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will begin filming on January 13, 2025. According to Variety, the premiere is scheduled for June 26, 2026.
