The film “Ghost – From the Other Side of Life” (1990) is one of Hollywood’s biggest box office hits, and the character Molly, played by Demi Moore, 61, joined the gallery of unforgettable cinema figures. Interestingly, the actress revealed in a recent interview that she almost turned down Jerry Zucker’s invitation to star in the romantic comedy alongside Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg.
Demi Moore considered “Ghost” his biggest challenge. “The film had so many mixed genres that I really thought, ‘This could be amazing or it could be a complete disaster.’ Either way, it needed to be something that conveyed that ‘take a chance and take a chance’ feeling. I thought a lot and accepted”, he said in a recent interview with the Hot Ones program.
At the time, her husband, Bruce Willis, was invited to play Sam Wheat, a young executive who is murdered during a robbery and becomes a spirit. To protect his girlfriend, Molly, he seeks the help of a medium (Whoopi Goldberg). “But the guy is dead! How is he going to have a romance?”, Willis declared to The New York Times many years after the film’s success. He also revealed his regret over turning down the role. “I was an idiot!”
Demi, who is in the cast of the feature film “The Substance” (2024), recognizes that since “Ghost”, she has tried to choose her works in a very peculiar way. “The important thing was to have something that was worth taking the risk, leaving the comfort zone and venturing into something that causes us a certain fear”, he stated.
