The Greek theater mourns the loss of one of its chosen children, the director Kostas N. Pharmacist. Kostas Farmasonis breathed his last on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at the age of 74. A student of Rodiris, he graduated from the theater school of the University of Vienna and graduated as a director from the Max Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna. According to the late Kostas Georgousopoulos, Farmasonis belonged to the small group of qualified Greek theater directors.

Also a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Philosophy of the University of Athens, he directed in Austria and Greece many works of the classical and modern repertoire: Aristophanes, Shakespeare, Gogol, Brecht, Durrenmatt, T. Williams, S. Stratiev, Kroets, D. Byzantium, M. Khourmouzi, I.Kabanelli, V. Zioga, Bost, D. Kehaidis, G. Manioti, St. Tsioli, A. Dimos, Ev. Triviza et al.

He was the Artistic Director of DI.PE.THE for 12 years. Agriniou, to which he gave the identity of an art theater. Especially his directing of works by B. Brecht were characterized by K. Georgousopoulos as “Brecht’s return to Greece”.

His productions have been presented at all the Festivals of the country, among them the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus and Herodeion.

Among his most recent well-known productions was the dramatization of texts by Evgenios Trivizas, a collaboration that left an era in modern children’s theater performances.

From the 80s until today, he has taught in countless theater seminars of the Ministry of Culture and other cultural institutions in every corner of Greece.

He was married to Georgia Kostopoulou and father of three children from this and a previous marriage.

His funeral service and burial will take place on Sunday, January 5 at 15:00 in his birthplace, Kastri Kynourias.
