Selton Mello went viral on social media with his reaction to Fernanda Torres’ Golden Globe win as Best Dramatic Actress for “I’m Still Here”. He, who plays Rubens Paiva in Walter Salles’ film, was thrilled with the announcement of his friend’s name at the awards ceremony held this Sunday night (5), in Los Angeles, United States.
The actor stood up, started clapping and shouted “Nanda!” several times. After she got off the stage, he ran to hug his very emotional colleague backstage. Selton couldn’t contain his emotion and cried with Fernanda.
Selton also shared details of the awards dinner on his networks. The luxury of the place and the illustrious guests at the celebration impressed the artist. “We are arriving. Forward, Brazil,” he said.
The first Brazilian actress to win the award in the protagonist category, Fernanda Torres won playing Eunice, beating Nicole Kidman for “Babygirl”, Angelina Jolie for “Maria Callas”, Kate Winslet for “Lee” and Tilda Swinton for ” The Room Next Door.” The competition, especially fierce in this edition, also included Pamela Anderson, nominated for “The Last Showgirl”.
Fernanda Torres is the third Brazilian actress to be nominated for a Golden Globe. The first was Sonia Braga, remembered for the award on three occasions: as a supporting actress in “The Kiss of the Spider Woman” (1986), “Luar sobre Parador” (1989) and “Amazônia em Chamas” (1995). Fernanda Montenegro was later nominated for the Best Actress in a Dramatic Film trophy for “Central do Brasil”, also directed by Walter Salles, at the 1999 ceremony.
