Former Secretary of Culture of Jair Bolsonaro and today Federal Deputy for Sao Paulo, Mario Frias (PL) used social networks this Saturday (25) to criticize the movie “I’m still here”. The parliamentarian, who had already spoken out against the 2025 Golden Globe’s Best Drama Actress Award for Fernanda Torres three weeks ago, called the feature film “Communist Propaganda and Disinformation.”

Frias began his statement by stating that Brazilian culture “is quite important” and, therefore, it is linked, “indelibly to good and truth.” And he went on: “When you turn a piece of propaganda and communist misinformation into art, you are not enriching national culture, it is destroying it.”

He followed criticism of the film, which was nominated for three categories at Oscar 2025: best movie, best international film and best actress and best actress, with Fernanda Torres. “This is the antithesis of art, it is a mere technique of psychological manipulation. One of the worst things a supposed advocate of art can do is to separate the aesthetic principle from the moral principle,” said the deputy.

The former actor also criticized the celebration of Fernanda Torres’ conquest, classifying her as “self-shaking of left-wing militants.” In addition, he accused the film of being a “piece of fiction and misinformation.”

The film, based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, tells the story of how former deputy Rubens Paiva (1929–1971), the author’s father, was murdered by the military dictatorship and the fight of his wife, Eunice Paiva, to maintain The family, with five children, united.
