Vogue’s chief editor Anna Wintour revealed on Tuesday that she has no plans to retire after receiving the order of companions of honor at the hands of King Charles 3 in Buckingham Palace.
Wintour, 75, who has already received the title of Lady in 2017, was declared a member of the Order of Companions of Honor, to which only 65 people were contemplated in recognition of their merits and achievements in their respective disciplines.
British artist Tracey Emin was also in the palace on Tuesday (4) to formally receive her lady title, one of the greatest honors a person can receive in the United Kingdom, after both women appeared on the list of decorated at the time of the anniversary of the anniversary Charles in 2023.
“It’s wonderful to be back to Buckingham Palace and I’m completely surprised and thrilled to receive this great honor,” said Wintour, who took his iconic glasses to receive her.
Wintour, who has been running Vogue for over three decades, said that when he was last honored by Queen Elizabeth 2nd, “We both agreed that we had done our work for a long time.”
“This morning, his majesty asked me if that meant I would stop working and I firmly said no,” he added, who wore clothes designed by Alexander McQueen.
“This convinces me even more that I have a lot to do,” he said.
The order of companions of honor was founded in 1917 by King George V.
Those who made huge contributions to the arts, science, medicine or government can be awarded; Current members include Judi Dench, Elton John and David Hockney.
Wintour, who grew up in the United Kingdom, daughter of British father and American mother, edits Vogue in the United States since 1988.
Emin, 61, one of the best known living British artists, was named Lady for his contributions to art. One of the figures of the young artists from the late 1980s and 1990s, she fought cancer and has undergone major surgeries in recent years.
